UK University Counselling Services

UK University Counselling Services

There was a point when I was at university that it felt as though everyone I knew was accessing the university counselling service! Happily we didn’t bump into each other. But the truth is university life can be tough sometimes and your university counselling service may be able to help if you are struggling.

If you are at university and think you could perhaps benefit from support, here is a list of UK university counselling services. These websites are a treasure trove of information! As well as information about the service, many of the websites include:

  • Information leaflets
  • Links to other sources of local support
  • Free access for their students to online self-help (such as SilverCloud and Big White Wall)
  • Self-help resources (such as apps, websites, books and podcasts)

So before we get to the list of university counselling services, I thought I would bring you five of my discoveries.

  • Similarly, you can find podcasts and MP3 downloads on some of the sites. For example, The University of Leeds have over twenty MP3 downloads!
  • The Mix: Not all students are 25 or under but for those that are then The Mix claim to “help you take on any challenge you’re facing – from mental health to money, from homelessness to finding a job, from break-ups to drugs”. They invite you to talk to them via online, social or their free, confidential helpline.

I hope that gives you a little bit of insight into the kind of things available on the websites below. In the future I hope to pull some of the resources together around topics that might be useful so that, for example, you can find all the anxiety resources in one place. If you’d be interested in that then make sure to follow me on Twitter and Facebook. For now, remember the counselling services are there because universities understand that lots of students may need support at some point. So don’t be afraid to ask for help if you need it and good luck!

I have tried to make sure this list is as comprehensive and up-to-date as possible but apologies in advance if I have missed your university or you find an error. You can send any amendments or corrections to author@soothingsense.com.
